WHAT TO EXPECT

The following is a basic outline of new patient appointments. It may vary depending on your needs.


VISIT 1

SCREENING 

- Required visit -

Before you can become an official patient of record at USC, you must go through screening. 

Screening faculty assess your health and dental needs in order to determine which department is best equipped to help you. For example, if your case is complex, you may be referred to one of USC's specialty programs.  

You will have diagnostic films taken during this visit. 


VISIT 2

DATA COLLECTION

- Required visit -

At your data collection appointment, I will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Assess your oral soft and hard tissues
  • Take impressions
  • Register your bite

Mounting casts made from your impressions after the data collection appointment.


VISIT 3

TREATMENT PLANNING

- Required visit -

After data collection  - As your student doctor, I will develop an optimal treatment plan based on your current needs. We will discuss the treatment options and I will address any question that you may have. It is important to me that you get the answers you need in order to make an informed decision about your care.  

 


VISIT 4

CLEANING

- Required visit -

Cleanings are essential - Periodic cleanings of your teeth is essential to your oral health. In non-emergency situations, your teeth must be cleaned before any restorative work can be completed.

Regular cleanings typically take one visit.  If you require deep cleaning due to extensive tartar build-up below the gum line,  it may take up to 4 visits to finish. 


VISIT 5 & BEYOND

Definitive Treatment - This may include final restorative procedures (fillings, crowns, veneers), implant surgery, periodontal surgery, and orthodontic therapy.  

  Implant Restoration  on the master cast prior to placement. Implant cases are typically done over 8 appointments after the initial screening, comprehensive examination, and treatment planning appointment.
